Exercise from the chapter "Resistor networks"
Level 3 of 5 · Skills: Calculate
A cooker oven has two resistors R₁ = 60 Ω and R₂ = 60.5 Ω whose couplings give several settings at 220 V. What power is absorbed when both are in parallel?
R₁ = 60 Ω · R₂ = 60.5 Ω · U = 220 V
Parametric exercise: the values change with every draw; these are one example.
Guided problem in 4 steps: unknown, formula, units, data, result.
In parallel each resistor is at U: P = U²/R₁ + U²/R₂ = 1607 W. The other settings: R₁ alone 806.7 W, in series 401.7 W.
