Exercise from the chapter "Resistor networks"
Level 3 of 5 · Skills: Calculate
A resistor absorbing 2000 W at 200 V is put in series with a 500 W at 200 V resistor. If the resistances stay constant, what power does the group absorb at 200 V?
P₁ = 2000 W · P₂ = 500 W · U = 200 V
Parametric exercise: the values change with every draw; these are one example.
Guided problem in 4 steps: unknown, formula, units, data, result.
R₁ = U²/P₁ = 20 Ω; R₂ = U²/P₂ = 80 Ω; in series P = U² / (R₁ + R₂) = 400 W. Not the sum of the powers!
