Exercise from the chapter "Kirchhoff's laws"
Level 4 of 5 · Skills: Analyse, Calculate
E1 (48 V) feeds through R1 = 6 Ω and E2 (24 V) through R2 = 4 Ω into a common junction; R3 = 6 Ω links that junction to the return. Write the loop and junction laws, then give the current in R1 (absolute value).
Parametric exercise: the values change with every draw; these are one example.
Junction: I₁ + I₂ = I₃; loops: E₁ = R₁ I₁ + R₃ I₃ and E₂ = R₂ I₂ + R₃ I₃. Junction potential V_A = 24 V; I₁ = 4 A; I₂ = 0 A (negative: E2 is crossed backwards); I₃ = 4 A. Voltages: U₁ = R₁ I₁, U₂ = R₂ I₂, U₃ = R₃ I₃.
